not sure who coined the phrase , but I certainly read it again in Paul Therouxes "Dark Star Safari that donors get more out of giving than the done ('tis better to give than to receive?) and I've long thought that the function of charities must be to "Enable not Disable!" and that's why I like Harvest Help. Harvest Help gives people the chance to create their own wealth by making soft loans ..and it also does a lot of work in Zambia. So what is an unashamedly selfish ambition of driving through Africa can be given some validation by doing something for them..and people are really generous... Life expectancy in Zambia is falling year on year as AIDS takes its toll, and its a sobering thought that there are very few native Zambians alive now who were alive when I was in Zambia. Susan at Harvest Help helped me a lot if you really want to do something useful ring her on 01952 260699 www://harvesthelp.org They have a great idea where you buy a goat, and when I get there I will be naming the goats after those who sponsored me All of the money that we have raised has gone to Harvest Help direct and not to fund our trip, they don't know it yet but Lloyds bank are funding our trip through an overdraft that they think that we can't repay but we can't, but best not mention that just yet!.
